Holi is around the corner and as much as joy this festival of colors brings to you, it also brings to you equal amounts of damage to both your skin and hair. While it is important that you follow a skincare routine in order to prevent damage, it is equally important that you take care of your beautiful locks for them to shine. Chemicals present in the colors and exposure to harmful sun rays can do quite a bit of damage and of course, we are here to save you from that.
Here are some of the best pre-Holi hair care tips that you can follow for beautiful, strong hair:
- Get a trim
Just a few days before Holi, make sure to get those split-ends chopped off. The colors can easily dry out your hair and damage the ends which could cause the hair to split even more. So, the better option is to head out and trim those off.
- Deep condition your hair
While this step is equally important post-Holi, you also should follow it pre-Holi. Investing in a good hair mask is always an excellent decision that you would make. A hair strengthening mask will go a long way as it will strengthen your hair follicles and strands. Since, the colors are going to do much damage to your hair, try to deep condition your hair a day before to make your hair stronger.
Of course, investing in a custom-made hair mask is something that we would always suggest. Our personalized hair routine that’s made specifically for your hair type will nourish and will give all the extra care that your hair needs. You simply need to answer a few questions related to your hair and we’ll add ingredients based on your hair type – voila!
- Do not skip oiling!
Oiling is essential and you should not miss it, no matter how late you are running. Heat some oil and massage your scalp and strands with a generous amount. From the roots to the tips, make sure you cover it all. Oiling will make sure that the harmful color does not stick to your strands which will help in the easy removal of color post-Holi.
- Cover your hair
Take it as a fashion statement or as a necessity – totally your call! Covering your hair with a scarf or a bandana will keep it safe from the colors. Never leave them open. Even if you are not covering them, you could either braid them or swirl them around in a bun. This way your scalp will stay protected and color absorption won’t be an easy process.
- Wash with cold water
As soon as you jump into the shower, make sure to rinse your hair with cold water before applying any shampoo. Once most of the color has come off, start by massaging your scalp with a mild shampoo and then run your fingers through the strands. Once you are done with it, use a conditioner and use your fingers to comb the hair to avoid tangling.
- Use a hair mask
Not the same day though! After 2-3 days post-Holi, make sure to use a homemade hair mask to treat damaged hair and to add moisture. You could make one by mixing lemon, yogurt, and eggs. Let it sit for half an hour and then wash it off with a mild shampoo to make your hair soft and shiny.
